Stardust on the Prow

Make a wish dear and to that planet we'll go
Pick a star that you see from your bedroom window
The Cosmos is our backyard, take my hand darling
Time and space is the limit to what we can dream

It's bleak and it's black and it's perilously deep
With pinpricks of fire that burn while you sleep
Hold tight to your loved ones, grab your swords and guitars
We're about to set sail on the sea of the stars

It's tranquil and lonely and brisling and fierce
With star-knitted secrets and beauties that pierce
Raise the sails and make sure that they're tied at the end
I can feel the cold bite of the North solar wind

We'll mount the wild back of the horse nebula
and ride to rescue Lady Andromeda
She's held by a giant named Enceledus
Which one of you is brave enough to come along with us?

So gird on your belt and Orion's chain-mail
It's wielded by red-dwarves and comet dust-tails
Don't worry if you don't think you know the way
Just follow the gleam of the nearest sun ray

But beware the sweet lullaby of shepherd moons
She'll lull you to sail into her ring of doom
Scrupleless monsters without reason or rhyme
And death-laden whirlpools of bended spacetime

It's bleak and it's black and it's perilously deep
With pinpricks of fire that burn while you sleep
In these berries of gold, what truth can be told?
What grand constellation does this Universe hold?

What grand constellation does this Universe hold?

-The Minstrel Boy

P.S. I wrote this for my friend for her birthday a few somethings ago because she likes Treasure Planet.  I hadn't actually seen the movie at the time, so it's kind of based off the trailer and Doctor Who and my astronomy class. I guess it's more just a random poem about space because space is cool.
